Negative thoughts have a powerful motivational impact.  When you suffer from a plague of negative thoughts, you become motivated to do whatever is necessary to eliminate them.

Negative thoughts are immensely destructive, and their power and resilience are astounding.  Their influence on your life is far out of proportion to their size.  A tiny negative thought can multiply like a computer virus and shut down all the positive thoughts in your mind. 

Positive thoughts evaporate from your mind; they seem to be written in invisible ink.  Holding on to them is like trying to hold on to three wet bars of soap while you are standing blindfolded in a hot shower.  Positive thoughts are frequently blown away by the most gentle breeze passing through your mind. 

Negative thoughts are as strong as steel and as hard as diamonds.  They are perfect boomerangs; they always come back, and they never break.  You never need to worry about running out of negative thoughts, because there is an inexhaustible supply.

The fact that negative thoughts ruin your life should motivate you to positive action so you can eliminate them.  And that’s the subject of the next chapter.  Positive action is the only appropriate response to a negative thought. 

Negative thoughts contain the seeds of their own destruction.  Listen to your negative thoughts, learn from what they have to say, and then take positive action to eliminate them.
