We are passionate about photographing
butterflies. We will move heaven and earth to get a great
photograph of these flying palettes of color. We take our camera
gear with us wherever we travel, and we always have our butterfly radar
turned on and scanning for stunningly beautiful butterflies.
We don't use tripods or monopods. Everything is shot handheld, and
the vibration reduction Nikon lenses are a great help. Since we
are shooting digital, we can afford to take lots of pictures in the hope
that a few of them turn out.
Donna sometimes uses a flash with her photos, and I never use a flash
with my telephoto. The vast majority of our photos are taken with
natural light.
We have only two camera bodies and three lenses. That's all the
camera gear that we want to carry around, and this combination of lenses
lets us photograph almost anything that catches our interest. As
we do more landscape photography, I'm sure that a tripod will soon
appear.
We are not professional photographers, although our photographs are
improving over time. We have never sold a photograph, and we never
intend to sell any. That would make what we do into work rather
than fun.
